The Senate has confirmed Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
The confirmation was made after Mr. Onnoghen, responded to questions from the lawmakers during his confirmation hearing today.
The chief justice answered questions on various subjects, relating to the independence of the judiciary, corruption in the judiciary, establishment of special courts for corruption trial and respect for court rulings, among others.
He vouch the establishment of special courts to tackle corruption cases in the country and proffered ways of quickening criminals prosecution
  In his remarks, the senate president, bukola saraki expressed optimism that justice Onnoghen and his colleagues would redeem the image of the judiciary and strengthen ties between the legislature and the judiciary.
  It would be recalled that before his confirmation, justice Onnoghen had been leading the country’s judiciary in acting capacity since the 10th of November 2016 when he was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari, following the retirement of justice Mahmud Mohammed.
