House of Representatives calls on President Muhammadu Buhari to disarm herdsmen.
The House of Representatives has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to set up a task force to disarm all herdsmen in different parts of the country.
The lawmakers who made this call while condemning the persistent attacks on communities in Benue State by armed herdsmen expressed their grievances.
They further urged the Inspector General of Police to investigate the killing and destruction of property in the communities, arrest those responsible for the attacks and restore security to the affected areas.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Government says it has established five grazing reserves to address the recurring clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the state.
The state governor Dr Abdullahi Ganduje who said this yesterday in Kano during a meeting with the newly elected officers of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association added that it was no longer needful for herdsmen to wander about searching for pastures.
Dr Ganduje who also said the state government would provide mechanized boreholes, fodder and other facilities in the reserves noted that more than 60 herdsmen were trained in Turkey for animal insemination to improve reproduction in cattle and in line with international best practices.
On his part, the chairman of the association, Malam Hussaini Ganduje, promised to pilot the affairs of the association with the fear of God.
