Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey had to be sworn in on Saturday at the country’s embassy in Ethiopia to assume her new role. This was due to failure to carry out the exercise in Accra. Ms Botchwey is part of newly appointed ministers of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who successfully went through vetting by the legislative. The other 12 ministers were sworn in Friday, January 27 at the Golden Jubilee House, until recently known as the Flagstaff House, the seat of government. Ms Botchwey could not swear in as a result of having to be in Addis Ababa for the African Union’s 28th Ordinary Session. She had to go ahead of the president’s delegation since she automatically becomes a member of the AU Executive Council as a Foreign Minister. The Council began its meetings on Thursday, January 26 ahead of the opening of the Session on Monday, January 30.
